Council approves road maintenance contract and accepts Aeolia sewer/water project; resident asks for additional repairs

The council approved a staff‑recommended road maintenance contract award and accepted the notice of completion for the Aeolia Drive sewer and water replacement project.
Peggy Meadows, a nearby homeowner, urged the council to include the damaged swath of Aeolia Drive in the active paving contract to address accelerated asphalt failure she attributed to heavy construction machinery used during the sewer project. Meadows also described a fir tree she said died after hot exhaust from construction equipment and requested reimbursement of roughly $100 for replacement and compensation for wall damage that staff said has been partially repaired.
Public Works and staff said the contract covers a different portion of Aeolia and that the section in front of Meadows’ property had been paved following the sewer project; staff agreed to investigate whether the city is responsible and whether the contractor’s contingency could cover a change order. The city manager/clerk noted that the appropriate mechanism for compensation is the city’s damage claim process; staff said they sent the claim form to the resident and would evaluate whether a change order is appropriate and bring any necessary item back to council.
Council approved the road contract award and accepted the Aeolia project completion by roll call vote.
