Council unanimously approves several event grants and accepts SNICC donation for swim lessons

At the meeting the council unanimously approved a set of items that included accepting a $2,500 donation from the Southern Nevada chapter of the International Code Council (SNICC) to support free swim lessons for toddlers and awarding two special-event promotion grants.
Julie Callaway, Boulder City Parks and Recreation Director, introduced representatives from SNICC and accepted a ceremonial check of $2,500 on the city's behalf; SNICC representatives described a program that provides nearly 500 free swim lessons for children up to 4 years old across the valley. The council later moved, seconded and adopted resolution 79 57 to formalize the acceptance.
Raffy Festukian told the council the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce requested $5,000 for reimbursement of eligible promotion expenses for the Spring Jamboree; the council heard disclosures from multiple members that their business entities are general members of the Chamber, and the city attorney advised those memberships would not affect their judgment. Resolution 79 55 to approve the Chamber reimbursement passed unanimously.
Festukian also presented a $5,000 request from the Boulder City Sunrise Rotary for reimbursement of eligible promotional expenses for its annual event on Sept. 27. Several council members disclosed membership in the Sunrise Rotary; the council voted to approve resolution 79 58 unanimously.
The council accepted the items by unanimous voice votes and took a photograph with the SNICC representatives when the donation was presented.
