The Ohio County Council voted to advertise an appropriation to finance EMS needs and approved a separate sheriff fund appropriation during its regular meeting.
Chair (Speaker 2) asked for a motion "to advertise that appropriation," prompting a brief discussion about loan terms and interest. Council members discussed a $350,000 borrowing figure and agreed the terms discussed at the prior meeting (4.15% interest for 60 months) would apply. Speaker 2 moved and the motion was seconded; a voice vote carried the motion.
Separately, Speaker 2 reported that Sheriff Baxter had about $26,700 in proceeds from recent vehicle sales and asked the council to appropriate that money into the vehicle fund so it could be applied to vehicle loan interest payments. The council moved, seconded and approved that appropriation by voice vote.
The council also approved minutes from a combined meeting with the commissioners and acknowledged executive-committee attendance. The meeting concluded with a unanimous voice vote to adjourn.
Why it matters: the advertised EMS appropriation initiates the formal public-notice process for borrowing; advertising does not itself obligate the county to finalize the loan but is a required procedural step. The sheriff fund appropriation directs one-time sale proceeds into the vehicle fund to reduce debt-service obligations.
What’s next: advertising opens the statutory notice period; council staff will return with final loan documents and any required hearings or formal adoption votes.
