The Falls Church City Council took three recorded actions in its March 23 meeting during the "other business" portion of the agenda.
Park naming: After staff presented public feedback and three leading name options, the council adopted resolution TR 26-65 to name the city-owned park at the South Oak Street property "Firefly Forest." Deputy Recreation and Parks Director Amy Youngs noted more than 100 naming suggestions were submitted and staff reported support from several advisory boards. A resident who lives near the property spoke in favor during the hearing. The motion passed unanimously, 7–0.
Opioid-abatement cooperative: The council voted to adopt TR 26-12, authorizing participation in the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority cooperative partnership that would pool the city's previously-appropriated $10,000 opioid-settlement allocation with regional funds to support prevention and assistance programs. The motion passed 7–0.
Conflict waiver for city attorney representation: Because the EDA holds title to several Virginia Village properties and the city is negotiating a management arrangement, the city attorney disclosed a potential conflict in representing both the EDA and the city as their interests could diverge over time. The council approved a disclosure and waiver allowing dual representation, with the option for the council to withdraw consent if an actual conflict later arises; vote 7–0.
