A staff member said, “You have before you the staff report, which lays out the schedule between 9AM and 2PM for the activities on May 10 for historic preservation day,” and confirmed the main floor of the historic water filtration plant will be available for event use. The same staff member advised the commission that, “The tables and chairs will be delivered,” and that they will borrow a microphone from Parks and Recreation for presentations.
Staff described contingency plans if weather prevents outdoor activities: "The Sunshine Rotary, they're gonna have tents up for us, so we'll have that in case the sun's too hot," and said the old gym at the recreation center is the backup indoor location. Staff also reported that a group at the Dam Roast House will host an all-ages activity (making vintage bookmarks) and that posters for that event have already been printed.
The mayor is scheduled to present an award during Preservation Day, and staff said they will take photographs to share with the communications manager for post-event dissemination. A caller from the public requested that the city send a formal invitation to the newspaper editor so the paper will consider coverage; staff said the communications manager will reach out to the newspaper.
