Plan Commission approves 8,400 sq ft outdoor training course at MATC Oak Creek campus

The Oak Creek Plan Commission approved site and architectural plans for an 8,400‑square‑foot outdoor physical training course at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Oak Creek campus, 6665 South Howell Avenue.

City planning staff said the facility will occupy a lawn area near the baseball fields and will require removal and on‑site relocation of four trees (two to be planted in parking medians and two along a service drive). The course will have a poured‑in‑place rubber surface, be enclosed by a 6‑foot black vinyl‑coated chain‑link fence with two key‑card‑activated gates, and include a guardrail and a new sidewalk linking an existing building door to the north parking area.

Staff described the training area as intended for EMS and other public‑safety training and said materials and colors for new windows and door openings will match existing building elements. The approval includes a standard condition that the commission’s approval will expire 12 months after the date of approval if a building permit has not been issued.

A commissioner moved to approve the site and architectural plans subject to conditions that require code compliance, submittal of permits, and the 12‑month expiration if no building permit is secured. The motion passed.

The applicant must pursue required permits and coordinate with engineering and other departments before construction; the plan commission’s action authorizes site and architectural approval but does not replace building permit review.
