Utility engineer reports progress on Substation 3, PRV stations and wastewater upgrades

Bill Bruniga, Boulder City utility engineer, outlined progress across the capital-improvement program. On electrical work he said the main focus is Substation 3: “the next big piece of equipment for substation, the breakers. So those are in the procurement process… we hope to have those purchased and awarded by November 1.”
On water infrastructure, Bruniga described ongoing copper-service replacements and a major 14-inch PVC water line to El Dorado Valley that will receive two additional pressure-reducing stations following an initial design review later this month. “It’s a big project,” he said, noting the work will reduce excessively high pressures that occur as the line slopes downhill.
Bruniga also reported wastewater upgrades: a new headworks screen at the sewer plant is performing well and the sanitary-sewer upgrade is using federal grant money; the project cleared NEPA requirements and staff is soliciting bids for manhole rehabilitation. Bruniga invited committee members to tour completed improvements.
Committee members asked when civil engineering layout drawings for circuit ties would be finished and when those projects would move to bid; Bruniga said the city engineer is leading the civil portion and that layout drawings will be completed to go out for bid ahead of cable work and electrical pull-through. No formal actions were taken on CIP items at the meeting.
