Board OKs Hamilton ventilator purchase for EMS using donation funds and regional grant

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors approved purchase of a Hamilton TI ventilator for the EMS department at a cost the clerk read as $21,004.73.
EMS Director Joe Knudson told the board the ventilator will replace one of the state-required units and that the department expects grant support from Region 2 Emergency Preparedness to reduce the county’s outlay. Knudson described the device as having greater pediatric capability and high-flow options compared with the unit currently in service.
"This ventilator is heads and tails above the one that we currently have," Knudson said, noting the unit broadens the scope of care the EMS team can provide.
The board approved using the EMS donation account to cover the county’s portion of the purchase. The motion was made and seconded and carried without recorded opposition.
County staff indicated the purchase includes a one-year preventive-maintenance agreement; financing or payment plans were not requested because donation funds and grant support are expected to cover the cost.
The board’s approval allows the EMS department to order the ventilator and proceed with delivery and setup.
