Summary
City staff reported progress on multiple capital projects: an $11M park opening, a $6M state-funded well rehab, 30%–95% design stages on transit and roundabout projects, and water-main replacement grants totaling several million.
City Services staff told the Lindsay City Council the city has several capital projects underway and grant-funded work moving toward construction.
Staff highlighted the Oval and Taku Park grand opening later this week for a project the presentation described as an $11 million-plus investment nearing completion. A separate well-rehabilitation project was described as fully funded at about $6,000,000 through a State Water Resources Control Board program; staff said final specifications were under legal review and the city expected to advertise the bid soon with construction starting later in the summer.
The presentation also covered a roundabout project that is expected to reach 95% design by late fall and a transit center that is in roughly 30% design, with a 60% submittal anticipated in the summer or early fall. Staff said they were pursuing grant opportunities — ATP for sidewalks/pedestrian improvements and another federal/state program for paving — and that multiple revenue sources will be combined so work is completed once rather than piecemeal.
Council members raised questions about ADA-compliant sidewalks, construction timing around school events and traffic calming. Staff said right-of-way acquisition and utility conflicts are being addressed and emphasized a preference for coordinated funding to avoid redoing work. No formal council action was required for those updates; council directed staff to return with budget specifics and timing for upcoming bids.
The council also discussed using SB1 and ATP project funding for crosswalks and safety improvements in priority corridors and asked staff to check immediate options for signage or other interim safety measures near schools.
