Commission flags older National Register nominations for updates; Floyd Lamb Park and Eureka locomotive highlighted

The Las Vegas Historic Preservation Commission reviewed nominations listed on the National Register of Historic Places and discussed which older filings should be updated.
Seaburn listed properties nominated prior to 2000 that might warrant revisiting, including the Big Springs and Tule Springs archaeological sites, the Mob Museum (former post office), the J. Dayton Smith House, the 5th Street School, the Hunteridge Theater, the Las Vegas High School Neighborhood District and the Eureka locomotive. "These are the potential candidates," Seaburn said, and supplied nomination dates and notes about later local/state listings.
Commissioners recommended prioritizing an update to the Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs (originally nominated in 1981) and suggested staff contact property owners before beginning an update. Commissioners also discussed cost: staff estimated consultant work similar to the boxing-gym nomination would run about $12,000 per update and said the commission currently has funds available in its account for nominations.
In a separate report staff also said the Mormon Fort nomination sent to the Keeper in Washington, D.C., was returned with comments that will require further work and likely additional contract funds because the current contract for that nomination has closed.
Next steps: staff will draft a prioritized list of nomination updates, confirm property owner concurrence where required, and return with funding recommendations and timing for specific updates.
