Council liaison: electronic billboards approved in second reading; commission told boards will carry emergency messages

Sally Branson, Friendswood City Council member and liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission, told commissioners on March 26 that the council recently held a second and final reading on an ordinance authorizing electronic billboards. Branson said installation work had already begun and that the city will be able to run emergency messages on the boards in addition to paid advertising, with no additional charge to the city.
Branson said the project had been discussed since 2017 and reported seeing crews working the day before the commission meeting. Her report was delivered during the communications portion of the agenda; commissioners thanked staff and the public and offered appreciation to developers and staff who had worked to resolve recent neighborhood concerns.
During public comment, Randy Hale announced his candidacy for City Council Position 5 and asked for support; no further public‑comment action was taken.
