Planner outlines comprehensive‑plan outreach; advisory meeting set for April 30

Aubrey, planning staff for Friendswood City, told the Planning and Zoning Commission on March 26 that work continues on the comprehensive plan update and the Resilient Communities Project. Aubrey summarized recent stakeholder outreach that included a Feb. 19 virtual session with teen leadership students, a Feb. 23 bus tour for the advisory committee, and March 17 stakeholder meetings targeting property owners in the Panhandle industrial area north of Clear Creek.

Aubrey said the city sent about 90 invitations to Panhandle property owners; two property owners attended and provided what staff described as valuable input. Aubrey also reported meetings with the Emergency Operations Center to incorporate hazard mitigation requirements into the plan and a session with the downtown economic development corporation (FDEDC) for downtown planning input. The next advisory committee meeting is scheduled for April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the commission chamber; Aubrey said the consultant will begin formulating recommendations and staff hopes to present draft plan elements this summer with a goal of adopting the updated plan by the end of the year.

Commissioner Mann suggested convening a smaller subcommittee to review collected input and prepare for larger advisory meetings; Aubrey said she would note that suggestion for staff action. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about outreach and meeting timing; no formal action was taken during the update.
