Summary
The board adopted a resolution confirming a public nuisance at 1368 Kim Place, Minden, approved the remediation report and assessed a $55,372.52 special assessment to recover cleanup costs.
The Board of County Commissioners on March 19 adopted Resolution 2026‑R‑010 confirming a public nuisance at 1368 Kim Place in Minden and approving a report and account of remediation expenses, assigning a special assessment of $55,372.52 to the property.
Ernie Strelo, Community Development Program Manager, described the cleanup and listed materials removed from the approximately one‑acre property: used oil and oil totes, multiple 55‑gallon drums of flammable liquids, dozens of propane tanks, batteries, tires, aerosol cans and other unknown chemical containers, and more than 100 vehicles that were auctioned or removed. “We had 8 55‑gallon drums of flammable liquids, 47 propane tanks, 4 totes of oil, a 250‑gallon tote of corrosives, and numerous aerosol cans and batteries,” Strelo said.
The county’s deputy district attorney explained the assessment process: the assessment is recorded against the property and runs with the land; future purchasers take title subject to the assessment if it is not paid. The board voted to adopt the resolution and assess the $55,372.52 remediation cost; the vote was recorded 4‑0.
What’s next: County staff will record the assessment and follow the county process for collection or placement of the lien on the property; the resolution and associated documentation will be part of the public record and notice to future purchasers.
