Select Board says investigation into African Meeting House vandalism is 'well advanced' but awaits outside documents

The Nantucket Select Board on Wednesday received an update on the independent review of vandalism at the African Meeting House, with the investigator reporting that the review is "well advanced" but still dependent on external document production.
"The majority of materials currently available have been received, reviewed, analyzed, and the core findings have been developed into an executive summary framework," a board member relayed from Dr. McNabb, the contracted investigator. The investigator, the board was told, is waiting on additional materials from the district attorney’s office; those documents could contain information that would require further evaluation and affect the timeline.
Board members and an advisory work group urged more direct engagement. A work-group member said participants had expected interviews and broader access to provide information and recommended meeting again with the investigator to ensure the process follows agreed criteria. The Select Board clarified that the investigation is sponsored and overseen by the Select Board and that the work group's role was to recommend the investigator.
No new completion date was set at the meeting; staff said they will relay any further needs from the investigator and bring updates to the board when the outstanding materials are available.
