Summer TLC program draws hundreds and aims to expand for older students

Summer TLC served children from kindergarten through seventh grade this season, operating at nine elementary‑site TLC portables and running Monday–Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program included weekly themes, arts, team building and off‑site excursions such as bowling, roller skating and trips to knott's Berry Farm. Morris said the program averaged about 690 participants per week this summer, with the district aiming to return to pre‑2020 weekly attendance that routinely surpassed 1,000 participants.
Morris described Teen Camp for graduating sixth graders and said the district hopes to expand programming to include incoming eighth graders next year. Parents and trustees praised the program; one parent said the program was 'a godsend' for working parents and cited benefits for students with social needs.
District staff described Summer TLC as a blend of safe supervision and enrichment and said they will continue to plan for future expansion.
