The International Falls Koochiching County Airport Commission on March 25 reopened consideration of the airport’s administrative position as the current incumbent moves toward retirement.
Ricky (commissioner) said the commission will run the issue through the city‑county joint‑powers process so both governing bodies can decide whether to eliminate, reclassify or refill the role. Commissioners agreed Paul (the current incumbent) will appear at the next meeting to present details and that decisions about Keta—who is working for the airport as a contractor from KEDA—will depend on the joint‑powers boards’ direction.
"So we can find out what's happening with Keta before we go," Ricky said, explaining the commission needs clarity from the city and county before finalizing personnel or pay decisions. Commissioners emphasized doing the process "right" and returning with joint board guidance before taking formal action.
The commission did not take a final personnel vote at the March 25 meeting; staff and commissioners said they will bring the matter back after joint‑powers discussions with the city and county.
