Heather Merle read a statement summarizing the purpose of the month and the national theme for 2026, highlighting education and community prevention work. "Education is a first step to action and empowers our communities to be part of the solution," she said. The proclamation encourages local businesses to display materials and indicates local victim-support resources will be made available by the county's safe-help providers.
The motion to adopt the proclamation passed unanimously by voice vote. Staff said materials and local resource contacts (including Heather Boswell at the local safe-help office) will be made available in the coming weeks.
The commission recorded the action and moved on to remaining agenda items.
