Marion County staff told commissioners on March 30 they are seeking a contractor to handle EMS medical billing after the departure of the previous billing specialist.
The county has received multiple proposals, including a smaller local vendor (Delphous/Delisa) and two larger firms. Staff said one local bidder offered a competitive percentage-based fee and on-site training for crews, while another offered more national-scale collections tools and legal recovery methods. "They can usually increase reimbursements," staff said of the vendors, noting prior internal methods were paper-based and not fully electronic.
Commissioners asked staff to check Better Business Bureau/DUNS ratings and client references, and to produce a comparative estimate of revenue impact and transition timelines. The board discussed contract terms (12-month contracts versus month-to-month arrangements) and directed staff to return with more competitive documentation and a sample contract for review.
No final vendor selection was made; staff will return with references and a recommended contracting approach.
