Council authorizes posting for city clerk position and allows mayor to sign county coalition letter on property tax

Councilors expressed support for allowing a short period after hire to obtain certification; one council member suggested requiring certification within one year.
Mister Benton said the job description had been updated in 2023 and that the city would post the salary midpoint or a salary range and advertise the position for about a month. Council indicated consensus to post the position with the suggested qualification language and for human resources to return with details on salary range and the posting schedule.
Benton also reported participation in the Indian River County Local Government Coalition and asked that the mayor be authorized to sign a planned letter to the governor and state legislators regarding property tax. Council moved and approved a motion granting the mayor authority to execute the coalition letter on behalf of the city when it is ready.
Council also approved a one‑day schedule change for the second May meeting, moving it from Wednesday, May 27 to Tuesday, May 26, to accommodate scheduling conflicts.
Council asked staff to circulate the job posting and salary details to members prior to publication.
