Tipton City hears update on West Madison lot and Achieva project; Achieva slated for April planning hearing

A commission member said the city is past the 30-day review period on the West Madison lot, giving the Redevelopment Commission more flexibility to market the parcel to realtors and local builders who have expressed interest.
The chair told members that Achieva will be on the April planning commission agenda and that under the new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) "a facility greater than 5,000 square feet has to go through a public hearing process." He said the application has completed the technical advisory review by police, fire, utilities and street departments and that the commission is expecting a favorable result at the planning commission before closing and groundbreaking.
A commissioner said roughly $1,200,000 will be committed to the project and predicted those funds "will be going pretty quick here." The commissioner added that contractor Blaze might be able to start earthwork as soon as next week and that visible site work should appear after spring break, weather permitting.
No formal planning decisions were made by the Redevelopment Commission at the meeting. The next procedural step for Achieva is the April planning commission public hearing required by the UDO; if the planning commission approves, closing and site work would follow.
