During public comment at the March 11 Washington Court House City Council meeting, three residents raised community-focused items ranging from awareness lighting to missed municipal services and a campaign introduction.
Josephine Call (327 N. Main St.) requested that the city light downtown street lights blue during April for autism awareness month. "Some people in the community have a diagnosis of autism, and I think it'll be fun and cool if you guys make the street lights blue for autism awareness month, the month of April," Call said. Council members responded positively to the suggestion and said they would consider coordinating it with downtown lighting plans.
Resident Jerry Kesterke described repeated missed trash pickups in his neighborhood and said neighbors struggled to find local service providers after the incident. He urged creation of a local resource guide listing services (trash pickup, appliance repair, lawn care and similar needs) for new residents. "What do I do? There's nowhere to find anything out," Kesterke said, describing confusion after the community's print "Shepherd's Guide" stopped publication in December. Council members and staff acknowledged the communication gap and said they would consult with the Chamber of Commerce and the Realtors Association about options, including possible online directories and distribution approaches.
Rob Mullins, a Perry Township trustee and candidate for county commissioner, introduced himself, described his background in pharmacy and township government, and said he would prioritize customer service, communication and collaboration if elected. Mullins also said he had a letter of support to give staff for the Foundry Amphitheater grant application.
Council members thanked the speakers and directed staff to follow up on the fence question at the cemetery and to discuss the resource-guide idea with local partners. No binding action on the resource guide was recorded in the meeting minutes.
