Beardstown City Council approves routine business, reviews finances and ambulance reports

The Beardstown City Council met at 6:52 p.m. Aug. 20 at Beardstown City Hall and handled routine business, including approving minutes, filing the consent agenda and reviewing July financial and ambulance reports.
Mayor Tim Harris opened the meeting and City Clerk Brian Ruch presented the clerk’s and treasurer’s reports. Ruch reported July 2024 cash receipts of $1,922,285.89 and cash disbursements of $1,054,155.81; fiscal‑year totals (May 1–April) were receipts $4,608,281.19 and disbursements $3,465,845.33. The treasurer reported fund balances including General Fund $3,215,615.29 and Special Revenue Funds $4,203,907.80.
Ruch also reported departmental overtime and part‑time payroll for July 2024: Ambulance $23,559.11, Fire $4,609.38, Police $11,032.41 and Public Works/Cemetery/City Hall $21,023.62. The council received ambulance service statistics: Beardstown reported 75 calls in July with total charges of $66,960.00 and collections of $32,699.93; Virginia reported 34 calls with charges $32,046.00 and collections $22,670.14 for the month.
A motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward to dispense with reading and approve the minutes of the Aug. 6 meeting, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin, passed unanimously by voice vote. A motion by Alderperson Mary Davis, seconded by Harbin, to approve and file the routine reports on the consent agenda passed unanimously by roll call under the Omnibus Vote Designation.
With no public speakers and no further general business, the council adjourned at 7:05 p.m. on a motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward, seconded by Alderperson Mary Davis.
