Beardstown City Council approves $61,908 sewer change order, selects auditor and OKs tentative police union deal

The Beardstown City Council on Feb. 4 approved a $61,908 change order on the USDA Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project and authorized a $555,801.08 payment to Hood Construction Group, both by 8-0 roll call votes.
Alderperson Dawn Seward moved, “That Change Order No. 2 in the amount of a $61,908.00 increase for the USDA Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project be approved,” and Alderperson Eric Harbin seconded. The motion carried with Yea votes recorded for Baer, Buhlig, Culves, Davis, Harbin, Schramm, Seward and Taylor.
The council then approved Payment Resolution No. 8, authorizing $555,801.08 to Hood Construction Group Midwest LLC for work on the USDA sanitary-sewer project. That vote was recorded 8-0.
The meeting also addressed routine departmental reports. The Water Superintendent reported January pumping of 15,376,607 gallons (138,679,962 gallons year-to-date for the May 1–April 30 reporting cycle). The Police Chief presented January public-safety statistics, and the Fire Chief summarized recent incident counts; Code Enforcement and Zoning Officer reports were filed as attached to the minutes.
On municipal finance items, the council approved the 2025 Motor Fuel Tax Municipal Estimate of Costs for $11,720 and an engineering agreement for the 2025 Motor Fuel Tax program. The council approved a separate resolution for Motor Fuel Tax maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code in the amount of $12,000; those votes were recorded 8-0.
Alderperson Chris Baer moved, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin, to approve a proposal from the accounting firm SIKICH to conduct the city audit for fiscal years ending 2025 through 2027; that motion passed by an 8-0 roll call vote.
Finally, the council approved a tentative agreement between the City of Beardstown and the Fraternal Order of Police representing the city’s police officers; the motion by Alderperson Eric Harbin, seconded by Alderperson Shawn Taylor, passed 8-0.
