Beardstown council approves MOU with UFCW Local 431, appoints library board member

At its Dec. 3 meeting the Beardstown City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with UFCW Local 431 covering vision and dental insurance for Public Works and City Hall employees, approved routine minutes and the consent agenda, and appointed Mariah Theivagt to the Houston Memorial Library Board.
The Beardstown City Council on Dec. 3 approved a memorandum of understanding with United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 431 covering vision and dental insurance for Public Works and City Hall employees and completed routine municipal business, including approval of minutes and a library board appointment.
Alderperson Eric Harbin moved that “a Memorandum of Understanding with the UFCW Local 431 representing the Public Works & City Hall employees pertaining to the vision & dental insurance be approved.” Alderperson Shawn Taylor seconded the motion. The council approved the MOU by a 5–0 roll call vote; alderpersons Ron Culves, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm, Dawn Seward and Shawn Taylor voted yea. Three members—Chris Baer, Lisa Buhlig and Mary Davis—were recorded as absent.
Earlier in the meeting Alderperson Shawn Taylor moved, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin, to dispense with the reading of the Nov. 19, 2024 minutes and approve them as published; that motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Under the omnibus vote designation, Alderperson Dawn Seward moved and Alderperson Eric Harbin seconded approval of the consent agenda, which the council adopted unanimously by roll call.
The council received routine department reports included in the packet: the Water Superintendent reported November pumping at 13,163,497 gallons (109,456,347 gallons for the May 1–April 30 reporting year); the Police Chief provided counts for calls, arrests and other enforcement activity for the stated reporting period; and the Fire Chief presented October/November and year-to-date totals for city and rural fires and rescue calls. Code Enforcement and Zoning Officer reports for November were listed as attached to the minutes.
Alderperson Dawn Seward moved, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin, to appoint Mariah Theivagt to the Houston Memorial Library Board; the appointment passed unanimously by voice vote.
With no further business, Alderperson Eric Harbin moved to adjourn, Alderperson Dawn Seward seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 6:36 p.m.
