Beardstown City Council members approved several ordinances and routine items during their Oct. 8 meeting, including an ordinance updating elected-official salaries and an ordinance increasing the number of Class I-2 endorsements for Class C liquor licenses.
The salary ordinance amending Beardstown City Code Chapter 2, Article III (sections 2-20 through 2-24) passed on a 5-1 roll call vote. Yeas were Alderpersons Lisa Buhlig, Ron Culves, Mary Davis, Eric Harbin and Keith Schramm; Alderperson Dawn Seward voted no. Chris Baer and Shawn Taylor were absent.
A separate ordinance increasing the number of Class I-2 endorsements for Class C liquor licenses from eight to nine also passed 5-1. Yeas were Ron Culves, Mary Davis, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm and Dawn Seward; Lisa Buhlig voted no. Baer and Taylor were recorded absent.
The council voted to enter executive session at 6:18 p.m. under Exemption 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(2) for collective bargaining; that motion passed 5-1 (No: Eric Harbin). The meeting resumed at 7:19 p.m. and subsequently recorded the approvals described above.
Other recorded actions: the minutes from the Sept. 17 meeting were approved after a motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward, seconded by Alderperson Eric Harbin (voice vote). The consent agenda was approved on a unanimous roll call following a motion by Eric Harbin and second by Dawn Seward. The council unanimously approved a street-closure request from Ebenezer Encuentro con Dios Church to close Edwards Street between Third and Fourth Street for concerts on Oct. 11–12, and set Halloween trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
