Belvidere officers honored with Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists awards

Two Belvidere officers were recognized Monday night by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists for their enforcement work removing impaired drivers from area roads.
"DUI enforcement traffic safety is a thankless but very necessary job to help keeping our communities safe," said Ari Briskman, vice president of AIM, during the Council Committee of the Whole meeting. Briskman, who said he has nearly 20 years in law enforcement, presented awards on behalf of AIM and its executive leadership.
Deputy Chief Byrd and Chief Woody joined council members in presenting awards to Officer Tony Jones and Officer Joe Danilak; an award also was noted for Officer Matthew Korn, who was unable to attend. Briskman said AIM, a citizen-led Illinois advocacy group that has operated for more than 30 years, gives awards to officers who show sustained enforcement effort.
Mayor Yener thanked the police and recounted a previous presentation that made the stakes personal: he said a presenter showed photos of victims of impaired driving, including a photo of a 12-year-old boy. "When he got down to the very end of it, there was a picture of a 12 year old boy... that was his son," the mayor said, urging continued enforcement to remove that hazard from roadways.
Council and public-safety leaders praised the officers' dedication during a short ceremony. No council action was required; the meeting moved on to planning and public-works business.
The recognition covered enforcement work previously recognized by AIM in 2023 and was noted again for 2024 at the Nov. 10 meeting.
