Police, fire departments report staffing, revenue and recent activity

Belvidere police announced officer training and upcoming swearing-in dates. The fire department reported 285 calls in 30 days, $867,933.97 in EMS revenue (as of Dec. 17), multiple transport destinations, station concrete work and a pending firefighter swearing-in and retirement.
Deputy Chief Smaha (speaker 6) updated the council on police training and staffing, saying Chief Woody completed FBI executive development training and that three new officers (Zach Amundsen, Jacob Sampson and William Drop) will be sworn in at 9 a.m. tomorrow and attend Sauk Valley Academy starting Jan. 5.
Captain Dave Burdick (speaker 4) told the committee the fire department had 285 calls in the last 30 days, including 219 medical calls and transports: 16 to Jovan Bay Hospital, 74 to St. Anthony Medical Center, 20 to UW Rockford and 53 to UW Belvidere. "As of December 17th, our EMS revenue is $867,933.97," Burdick said. He also announced the completion of Station 1 and Station 2 concrete projects, a swearing-in for firefighter Kane Lander on Dec. 29 at 9:30 a.m., and a retirement open house Dec. 30 for longtime firefighter Matt Laudenbeck.
Councilors asked whether overdose calls had increased; Burdick said Chief Schadl had asked for multi-year overdose counts and the chief would provide comparative data. The departments requested no formal action beyond the informational updates.
The updates will be part of the public record as the council proceeds with budget discussions in January and February.
