The Parks & Recreation advisory board on Wednesday heard a new‑business concern from the board’s vice chair about site access for a proposed new parks and recreation office that, the vice chair said, could route more than 100 vehicles a day through Snyder Park.
"They'll have to cut through Snyder Park to bring all of the employees to this facility. That's well over a 100 vehicles a day," the vice chair said, urging staff to examine alternatives after the project appeared at Development Review Committee (DRC).
Members discussed other access options, including routing service vehicles through the Floyd Hall Stadium side of the site, and raised the potential impacts on a park described as passive open space with walking paths, disc golf and wildlife. One member noted the site’s proximity to a bus stop and several residences and argued the board should seek alternatives that avoid driving through the park.
The chair asked staff to follow up and said the board could request a staff presentation on Snyder Park access. The vice chair and other members discussed the option of preparing a letter to the commission explaining the board’s position if subsequent reviews indicate park access would be compromised.
What’s next: staff said they will provide follow‑up information and a plan presentation; no formal vote or motion was taken at the meeting.
