Broadview–Maywood interagency board accepts director report, will revisit uniform policy under IGA

The interagency board overseeing shared police services for Broadview and Maywood accepted minutes from its Dec. 17, 2025 meeting, approved the director's January report and agreed to return next month to settle who should pay for officer uniforms under their Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA).
Acting Chair opened the meeting at about 10:01 a.m. and a roll call confirmed a quorum; two elected officials — Chief Matt Martin and Mayor Katrina Thompson — were noted as absent. The board voted 4-0 to approve the minutes from the Dec. 17 meeting.
In the director's report, the Clerk reported January service costs of $1,626 for Broadview and $1,670 for Maywood, which she presented as a combined total of $3,296 and described as a 5.2% increase in cost-for-service for January 2026. "So sometime it takes 5 days, 7 days, then they get it, they process it," the Clerk said when explaining typical vendor-payment timing after board approvals; a separate member had raised a vendor concern that the vendor reported not receiving payment.
The board moved to accept the director's report; a member made the motion, a deputy chief seconded it, and members approved the report by voice vote.
Under new business, members discussed differing practices for purchasing uniforms tied to separate collective bargaining agreements. The Clerk said Broadview historically bought initial startup uniforms from Broadview funds and replacements later came through IKE; Maywood's practice, she said, was to wait until members complete probation before purchasing uniforms. "We just wanna have some clear direction as to, who should pay for the uniforms and when should we buy them," a member said during that exchange.
Board members asked staff and counsel to review the IGA language and the relevant collective bargaining agreements. One staff member said he would review the IGA and consult Maywood's attorney, Mike Jerusick, to reconcile the practices and report back. The board placed the uniform-purchasing question on next month's agenda for further discussion with the mayor and Chief Martin expected to be present.
A motion to adjourn passed by voice vote, and the Chair closed the meeting at 10:11 a.m.
