Chair (name withheld on the record at the podium) announced Hernandez's selection and invited him to address the board and the public. Hernandez said he was "extremely excited about coming in" and described his immediate priorities as listening and learning from teachers, staff, students and families before implementing action steps. "I'm gonna be part of this team," he said, and thanked trustees for their confidence.
The selection was presented at the start of a brief special board meeting that approved routine personnel items and a contractor award before moving into a longer work session. The board later moved into closed session under Wisconsin statute 19.85(1)(c) to deliberate terms of a new superintendent contract; that motion passed on a recorded voice vote.
No final contract was approved in the open meeting. Administration said further contract discussion and negotiation would occur in closed session and that the board would announce next steps following those discussions.
The introduction comes as the district balances multiple budget pressures that trustees and administrators outlined during the work session, including potential program reductions, facilities choices and benefit changes.
