Commissioner warns a project will cost $1.17 million more; mayor urges enterprise-zone research

During the March 9 Village of Forest Park meeting, Commissioner Maxim told colleagues that the project discussed earlier on the agenda would add about $1,174,000 to the village’s costs and urged heightened attention as the council prepares its budget.
"The project is gonna end up costing a lot more than we originally anticipated, and that's $1,174,000 more," Commissioner Maxim said, calling on members to be "really cognizant" of cumulative expenses in upcoming budget discussions.
In the commissioners' reports, Mayor Hoskins also encouraged the council to research the Illinois Enterprise Zone program and consider whether Forest Park should join a new enterprise zone being discussed by a group of mayors. He described enterprise zones as a tool to attract business and investment and asked members to spend 10 to 30 minutes researching the program ahead of budgeting conversations.
Other commissioners used the reports portion to praise recent community events — including the parade and a Pinewood Derby — and to note ongoing outreach work with Housing Forward and temporary staffing changes affecting the recreation board.
Commissioner Maxim’s budget caution and the mayor’s enterprise-zone suggestion were offered as forward-looking requests for research and consideration and do not represent formal policy changes; the council did not vote on enterprise-zone action at the meeting.
