Council appoints IMRF authorized agent after questions about clerk workload and training

The Village of Forest Park Village Council voted March 9 to appoint an authorized agent to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) after commissioners pressed staff for details about training and workload.
Commissioner Maxim said he wanted reassurance the new assignment would not overburden village staff. "I just would like reassurance that this new thing that you'll be taking on ... isn't going to get in the way of the other responsibilities that you already have," he said.
The deputy clerk explained the duties and training timeline: "The training is 2 90 minute webinars that I have 3 months from, essentially, would be whoever it is. We'd have 3 months from today to be able to do that. Being the authorized agent does not preclude me from assigning other responsibilities to other people," the deputy clerk said, and suggested the appointment could be reassessed in six months if necessary.
Commissioner Melvin Rogovin and another commissioner said they were comfortable moving forward if staff monitors workload and follows up. Mr. Wilk also said he was "comfortable going forward at this time" provided the council checks in during the next three to six months.
The council recorded the action as Resolution R18-26 and approved it unanimously. The deputy clerk and staff will complete the training and the council indicated it will revisit the appointment if workload concerns continue.
