Belvidere Council approves $2.44 million in general expenditures; fire chief explains turnout-gear charge

During review of the general fund expenditures, Alderman Peterson asked about a line-item charge on page 16 relating to turnout gear for firefighters. Chief Shadle responded, "That's, 1 set of turnout gear. We're required to replace the gear anytime it's, obviously, completely worn through or can't be repaired. And, also, after 10 years of wearing, his gear was, just had met that threshold." The chief said the department shops several vendors and seeks quality gear without always buying the latest models.
The council approved the general and special fund expenditures on a roll call recorded in the meeting (the clerk recorded eight in favor). The water and sewer fund expenditures were presented and approved on a subsequent motion; the mayor recorded the motion passed.
Council did not record further debate on expenditures during the meeting. No public commenters were registered to speak on spending items.
