Beardstown council approves $225,823 payment for USDA sewer project, OKs $91,220 change order and equipment purchases

The Beardstown City Council on Aug. 6, 2024, approved several fiscal and procurement items tied to the USDA Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project and routine municipal needs.
Payment Resolution No. 7, in the amount of $225,823.55, was approved unanimously on a motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward, seconded by Alderperson Chris Baer. The minutes list the payee as Hood Construction Group Midwest LLC and record the motion passing by an 8–0 roll call vote.
Council also considered and approved Change Order No. 1 for the same sewer replacement project. Alderperson Ron Culves moved the change order, Alderperson Eric Harbin seconded, and the change order — a $91,220.00 increase to the project — passed by a 7–1 vote with Alderperson Chris Baer recorded as the sole no vote.
In separate, unanimous votes the council approved the purchase of a brush chipper for the Public Works Department at $85,817.22 (motion by Chris Baer, second by Dawn Seward) and approved a $3,000 donation to the Fall Fun Festival Committee (motion by Dawn Seward, second by Eric Harbin).
