Willow Springs — The Village of Willow Springs Board of Trustees on July 10 heard a staff update on a potential sale of surplus real estate, approved the night’s warrants and payroll, and set public events as construction work at Village Hall nears completion.
Perez, who reported on a closed-session item from the June 12 meeting, said he had engaged with a company interested in the parcel referred to in the minutes as "Gilmore." Perez said the prospective buyer "seem[ed] agreeable to all our requests," and that village staff and the village attorney will finalize paperwork before the sale process proceeds. He described the next procedural steps: the village will publish its intent to dispose of surplus real estate in the newspaper at least 14 days before a public hearing, hold that hearing to discuss specifics, and then return to the board for any final action.
The procedural timeline matters because, as Perez explained, the publication and public hearing provide formal notice and an opportunity for public comment before the board takes final action.
The board also reviewed warrants dated July 10, 2025, and payroll and disbursements totaling $550,683.78. Finance staff presented the warrants and Trustee Hard moved to approve them; Trustee Micah seconded. The Chair then called the roll on the motion.
Department reports included a community-services announcement that a food pantry will be held at the community center on Tuesday, July 15 at 3:30 p.m.; "Everyone is welcome," Clerk Charles said. A public-safety speaker reported the department’s two most recent hires completed field training and that staffing is up to target levels. Building and inspections staff reported 23 permits issued in the recent period with a construction value reported at $452,052; year-to-date figures were reported as 153 permits and $3,136,067 in construction value, with $91,165 in outstanding fees.
The Chair said work on the Village Hall project — a collaboration with MWRD — is nearing completion with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for July 24 at 2:00 p.m. He also noted the Willow festival will run July 24–27 and encouraged residents to attend.
There were no public commenters at the meeting. With routine business concluded, the board moved to adjourn and ended the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
What happens next: Staff will publish advance notice of the surplus-property public hearing and return to the board with finalized paperwork; the public hearing date and any final action on the Gilmore parcel will be set following that notice and hearing.
