LaGrange trustees vote to publish proposed $12.55 million property-tax levy; public hearing set for Dec. 15

Trustee Augustine presented a resolution to publish the village's proposed 2025 property-tax levy, telling the board the proposed levy (exclusive of debt service) is $12,548,353. Augustine said the levy includes separate line items, among them the police and fire pension levies, which reflect the actuary's recommended contributions, and a LaGrange Public Library line item of $3,206,160.
Augustine explained new growth for the year was estimated at 1.5 percent and noted that pension-levy increases have reduced the village's corporate line-item capacity; he said SSA 9 (Uptown La Grange) will not be levied this year because no funds were expended from the sidewalk reserve. Augustine moved to publish the proposed levy and schedule a public hearing and adoption for Dec. 15, 2025; the board approved the motion by unanimous roll-call vote.
President Kukler said publication and a separate hearing are being used even though the levy extension is below state thresholds requiring a public hearing, calling it the village's practice to hold a hearing anyway. Clerk Saladino called the roll and the motion passed unanimously.
