Trustees unanimously approve zoning variance for detached garage at 721 S. Kensington

The Village Board unanimously approved an ordinance granting a variance from La Grange zoning code section 3-110(e)(1) for property at 721 South Kensington Avenue to allow construction of a detached two-car garage in the existing location.
Applicant Richard Lassiter told the board the existing building coverage is 33.58% (about 2,065 square feet); the proposed replacement garage would change coverage to 33.45% (about 2,057 square feet), still above the 30% maximum allowed. The Zoning Board of Appeals held a public hearing Oct. 16, 2025 and voted 4–0 to recommend approval, finding the replacement would not alter the essential character of the neighborhood.
Trustee Peterson moved to approve the ordinance, Trustee Augustine seconded, and the board approved the measure by roll call.
The approval was recorded on the consent/current business docket; no public opposition or conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes.
