Broadview board approves hires, promotions and routine warrants; education task force approved with one abstention

At its September meeting the Broadview Village Board approved several personnel actions and routine financial matters: the promotion of Officer Sean McElveny to sergeant was confirmed by roll call (6–0) and the board authorized the hiring and swearing-in of firefighter/paramedics James O'Donnell and Sherry Wnauskas, each approved 6–0.
Trustee Abraham (finance chair) read several warrant lists covering different periods; the board approved the presented warrant lists by roll call, including totals of $257,724.83 (period ending 06/13/2025), $610,823.77 (period ending 08/27/2025) and $602,140.08 (period ending 09/09/2025). Trustees asked routine questions; the finance director was out for training and the clerk confirmed the roll-call results.
Mayor Katrina Thompson introduced a resolution to form an educational "Cradle to Career" task force to improve reading proficiency, attendance and long-term student outcomes across six local school districts. The board approved the resolution 5–0 with one abstention. The mayor said the task force will produce quarterly progress reports on literacy, attendance and youth engagement and will convene local nonprofits, school leaders and other stakeholders.
Other items approved included a $16,150 grant‑funded purchase order for Spring Grove Nursery to replace neighborhood trees and a motion to table an agreement with Impact Networking LLC until October 6 to allow more financial information to be provided. The clerk closed the meeting after a public-comment period and the mayor’s report.
