The Village of Brookfield board on Oct. 27 authorized a notice of award to Lindblad Construction for the Eller Park Field 1 renovation, totaling $554,900, while acknowledging bids came in higher than earlier estimates and that additional village funding may be required for the second phase.
Trustee Kaluznick moved to approve the notice of award and Trustee Ghahouli seconded. The project is organized in two phases: phase 1 covers demolition and reconstruction of dugouts, fences and screening so the field will be ready for spring high-school baseball; phase 2 covers a press box, storage and heavy concrete and drainage work that will require MWRD permitting and further planning.
A village staff member involved in the project said the higher bids reflect current construction-material and labor costs: “From estimates a year ago is the reality of construction material cost,” and noted White and Company reviewed the bid and that the submitted bid is the lowest qualified. When trustees asked whether elements could be removed to cut costs, staff cautioned against that, saying dropping key concrete work could undermine structural integrity: “I would not recommend we remove anything.”
Trustees and staff discussed funding options. The board was told the village and its partners — Riverside Brookfield High School and the Western Conference — have committed contributions for the first phase; staff recommended pursuing grants and reviewing the 2026 draft budget to consider additional village funding to complete phase 2. Staff also noted that some drainage requirements will be clarified after MWRD permit reviews.
The motion passed by roll call. The board’s next steps include pursuing any available grants, receiving MWRD comments on drainage, and considering phase-2 funding in budget workshops.
Provenance: The Eller Park Field 1 discussion and vote were recorded beginning with the board’s motion to issue a notice of award (SEG 328) and continued through trustee questions, staff responses and the roll call vote that concluded the item (SEG 521).
