The Village of Brookfield opened a public hearing on its 2026 Appropriations Ordinance at about 6:33 p.m. on Jan. 12 during a regularly scheduled board meeting. The hearing is an annual, statutorily required step in the budget process.
The presiding official said the ordinance mirrors the village’s 2026 annual budget approved by the board on Dec. 9, 2025, and provided the totals: $67,016,860 for the village and $4,344,000 for the library, which the president said comprise the combined appropriation presented for public review. The president noted the ordinance had been published in the Riverside Brookfield Landmark and made available in the clerk’s office at least 10 days before the hearing.
The board opened the floor for public comment on the proposed property tax and appropriation ordinance; no members of the public came forward to speak. A trustee then moved to adjourn the public hearing at roughly 6:35–6:36 p.m., and the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
The board and staff characterized the hearing as a formality because the budget had already been debated and adopted at prior meetings. The board proceeded to other agenda items after adjourning the hearing.
