Committee recommends council ratify lease of utility cutaway van for public works

The City of Warrenville Public Works & Structure Committee voted Oct. 13 to recommend the City Council ratify and approve a lease and upfitting of a Ford E‑350 cutaway utility van located by staff in dealer stock.
Capital maintenance superintendent Jamie Clark told the committee that after a September 2024 council approval to lease nine vehicles, one vehicle could not be built because Ford closed its order bank. Clark said staff worked with Enterprise Fleet Management and located a 2026 Ford cutaway that already had the ordered utility body installed on dealer stock in Ohio. “The difference is $502.80 less than the original and is 1 year newer,” Clark said.
The presentation noted the purchased vehicle differs from the originally approved unit but meets the department's needs because the body provides accessible storage, a walk‑in rear area and side cabinets for tools and parts. Clark explained a cutaway E‑350 is the van front and chassis configured to accept a custom body for municipal uses.
Alderman Lockett moved to recommend the City Council pass a resolution ratifying and approving the lease of a Ford E‑350 cutaway and procurement of upfitting service and equipment through the Enterprise Fleet Management program; Alderman Wilkie seconded. The committee voice vote was recorded as "Aye" with no opposition and the motion passed.
The item will appear on a future City Council consent agenda for final action. Staff said they are available to answer council questions about the change and the upfitting schedule.
