Village administrator: former police boat sold for $100,000; village to maintain rustic trail behind Sarah’s Ponies

Village Administrator Chris told the Willow Springs Board that several operational items are complete and one property sale closed this week: "We received a check for a $100,000 from the village of Winnetka," he said, adding that the certificate of origin and title for the boat trailer have been transferred and the village is no longer the owner of the vessel.
Chris also reported the village’s new management software went live last week after prior implementation hiccups; he said the system is operating though some operational items remain to be fixed.
On a longer-running local issue, Chris described successful mediation between Sarah’s Ponies & Stables and the Cook County Forest Reserve District. The mediation included a special-use permit for the stables; as part of the agreement the Forest Reserve will cease routine maintenance of a short, rustic trail that connects behind the stable to the groomed county trail network. Chris said the village has agreed to minimal maintenance — clearing fallen trees and similar occasional upkeep — to ensure continued access for the business and community. He told trustees he believes the liability is limited and comparable to normal public-works tasks.
The administrator asked trustees for any objections to the proposed arrangement; none were raised. Staff will implement the maintenance plan and continue working with the stable owner and the Forest Reserve on the permit schedule and renewal terms.
