Summary
The Maywood Board of Trustees unanimously approved temporary Class C and Class E liquor licenses for park events and Maywood Fest on Aug. 3, 2021, and voted to waive license application and daily fees and a background check for Maywood Fest.
The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees on Aug. 3, 2021 unanimously approved temporary liquor-license ordinances to allow event alcohol sales for events organized by the Maywood Park District and for Maywood Fest (Sept. 10–12, 2021).
The board approved an ordinance authorizing a Class C temporary special-event liquor license for the Maywood Park District’s 2021 "Wine Down Wednesdays" events at 50 West Madison Street and separately approved a Class E temporary license to permit alcohol sales on municipally owned property during Maywood Fest. Both motions carried on unanimous roll call votes. Trustee S. Reyes-Plummer moved the first ordinance; Trustee M. Lightford seconded; Trustee M. Lightford moved the second and Trustee S. Reyes-Plummer seconded.
Following the liquor-license approvals, the board voted to waive the Maywood Fest application fee ($75), the special event license fee ($125 per day; $375 total), and the required background check for the Village’s Class E license application. Trustee M. Lightford made the motion to waive fees and Trustee S. Reyes-Plummer seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Why it matters: waiving fees and approving temporary licenses clears administrative hurdles for the Park District and festival organizers as they plan summer and early-fall events that include live entertainment and alcohol service. The minutes record no substantive debate on these particular votes.
What’s next: the ordinances were adopted during the Special Board Meeting; event organizers are cleared to proceed with permitting and production preparations for the dates listed in the ordinances.
