He reviewed capital needs for station projects and said a $350,000 fire station grant application was not awarded; as a result, staff will prioritize projects in the next budget cycle.
On Station 1 flooring, Schadl presented three bids and recommended the low bid from Stateline Carpet and Flooring at $8,550. Because some existing tile contains asbestos, the recommended contractor will install a new subfloor over the tile (rather than full abatement). The project was budgeted at $5,000 and the remainder will be paid from the 2% firefighter insurance tax fund; the council approved the contract by voice vote.
Council members asked about bid scope, asbestos handling and efforts to use local contractors; staff responded they attempted to prioritize local bidders but cost and compliance with budget drove the recommendation.
