Growth Dimensions asks Belvidere for $20,000; council honors two Belvidere police officers

During the public comment portion of the March 9 meeting, Mayor Morrison introduced Kim Haley of Growth Dimensions. Haley said the organization requests a $20,000 contribution from the city to support business attraction, workforce development and site readiness work. In her prepared remarks Haley cited recent activity including 2,500,000 square feet of occupied commercial/industrial space and 3,648 new jobs attributed to the group's efforts.
Earlier in the meeting the council presented awards to two Belvidere Police Department members. Chief (presenter) recognized Officer Joseph M. McDermott for multiple AIM (Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists) recognitions and meritorious service ribbons; McDermott thanked command staff and family, saying, "I just wanna take a minute and thank our command staff for this nice plaque and their support. I'd like to thank Sergeant King and my shift... and my wife and my kids for always loving me and supporting me."
Detective Steven Jones received decorated officer recognition and multiple life‑saving awards for responses spanning 2013–2023, and a meritorious service award for investigative work in a 2021 triple homicide that led to a conviction. Presenters recounted instances in which Jones performed CPR, rescued trapped individuals from a fire, and led multi‑jurisdictional investigative work that produced a conviction.
The committee did not take action on Growth Dimensions' funding request at this session; the public comment was received for council consideration.
