Council awards $34,390 contract to resurface Station 2 apparatus bay floor

Fire Chief Schadl told the Committee of the Whole that Station 2's trough floor drains were replaced and the department requested resurfacing to restore a smooth apparatus-bay floor. The city received two bids: a lower-price bid from AA Concrete and a higher-price bid from TSR Concrete Coatings. Schadl recommended TSR based on a promised two-day project timeline compared with a 10-day turnaround from the other bidder.
Schadl said shorter downtime is important because apparatus would be displaced while work is performed. He told council the cure time after resurfacing would be about 48 hours and that completing the work before the fiscal year ends was preferable. The recommended contract amount for TSR was listed in the packet as $34,390 and Schadl said the capital fund would pay for the work.
Alderman Stevens moved and Alderman Albertini seconded a motion to award the contract to TSR Concrete Coatings for the Station 2 apparatus bay floor refinishing project; the motion passed by voice vote.
Chief Schadl also reported recent department activity including three fires, gas leaks, carbon monoxide releases, power lines down, an elevator rescue, a house shoring after a vehicle collision, nine vehicle collisions with injuries and several serious medical calls.
