Summary
Central Wyoming College (CWC) told the school board the Jackson campus is on track for substantial completion late August, with a planned grand opening on Sept. 24; the college expects to expand offerings including construction trades, plumbing apprenticeships, welding, auto technician and increase nursing capacity.
Kathy Wells, vice president for academic affairs at CWC, updated the Teton County School District #1 trustees on the Jackson campus during the March 11 meeting, saying contractors are slightly ahead of schedule and the college is planning staged move‑ins to coincide with the semester.
Wells said CWC is targeting Aug. 26 for substantial completion of the Jackson building and tentatively plans a community grand‑opening celebration on Sept. 24. She told trustees the interior work is the focus now and that favorable winter weather helped progress; the college will keep a lease at the Center for the Arts through December as a cushion if construction delays arise.
On programming, Wells outlined career and technical education plans: construction trades with embedded plumbing apprenticeships, welding and auto‑technician courses, and expanded capacity in nursing and allied programs including CNA and culinary/hospitality. She said CWC currently serves roughly 900 students across programming in Jackson and expects to add 20–30 new students each fall as new programs come online. "We admit eight currently, eight students every year," Wells said of the nursing program, adding the college hopes to double to 16 as staffing is added.
Wells emphasized partnerships with the district for dual‑enrollment courses and with industry for internships and hands‑on instruction. Trustees asked about anticipated enrollments and program sequencing; Wells said many students enroll part time and the college is planning flexible and hybrid offerings while expanding on‑site instruction.
Next steps: CWC will continue construction and planning, invite trustees to a tour (a campus tour was scheduled), recruit staff for new programs and coordinate dual‑enrollment pathways with the district.
