Wauconda board recognizes scout and police leader, highlights holiday events and staff anniversaries

The Wauconda Village Board used part of its Dec. 2 meeting for community recognitions and announcements. Mayor (speaker 2) introduced and presented a challenge coin to local scout Ryan McGahn for earning the Ranger Award, describing the outdoor skills, electives and leadership activities that led to the honor and noting Ryan’s Eagle Scout project in partnership with the Wauconda Historical Society.
The mayor also congratulated Sergeant Galavan of the Wauconda Police Department on receiving an award from the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety Leadership, noting the coursework and examinations required for the recognition. Staff anniversaries were read into the record, including Jason Johnson (24 years) and Laurie Empt (18 years), among others.
Community-event announcements included a village ‘wishes tree’ charity drive at Village Hall (residents take a tag, purchase items and return them for distribution) and upcoming American Legion events: a Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 7 (8 a.m.–noon), a fish fry on Dec. 12 (5–8 p.m.) and an auxiliary holiday craft fair Dec. 13–14. Trustee (speaker 3) thanked Public Works for snow clearing following recent storms and reported about 850 people registered for a recent Turkey Trot; Star Charities and volunteer groups were thanked for assistance.
The meeting proceeded through committee reports and other routine business after these recognitions and announcements.
