Lindenhurst trustees praise volunteers, outline projects and community events

During routine board and staff reports at the Nov. 10 meeting, trustees and department heads highlighted recent community events and ongoing projects. Trustee Pat Dunham previewed the village Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11 at 11:00 a.m., noted Quilts of Valor presentations and thanked ERIN cleanup volunteers. Trustee Ron Grace also thanked village employees and families for cleanup efforts.
Mayor Dominic Marturano described recent engagements including a park-district grand opening and a Lake County Municipal League emergency-readiness seminar; he said the Metropolitan Mayors Legislative Committee is discussing whether e-scooters should be governed by local ordinance and plans to seek clearer e‑bike definitions in the spring legislative session. Village Administrator Clay Johnson said Lindenhurst was invited to participate in the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus "Homes for a Changing Region" housing initiative.
Police Chief Melinda Linas reported county and state chiefs are awaiting guidance on e-bike law changes in spring, thanked community volunteers, and described recent community policing events. Superintendent Charles Hernandez reported no major issues from the first snow event, announced that staff member Zach Turner passed his arborist exam, and said the Lake Shore Drive project is progressing. Assistant to the Village Administrator Karleen Long outlined proposed America 250 activities including a patriotic concert, art banner contest, a decorating contest and a group photo of residents around the flag.
