Brookfield greenlights pilot 'French market' in 8 Corners this summer to boost Broadway businesses

The Village of Brookfield’s Committee of the Whole approved a pilot French-market program for the 8 Corners/Broadway business district this summer.
Economic-development staff proposed a Friday-evening market designed to complement the existing concert series: closures of short Broadway segments would host artisan food, flowers and specialty vendors for about three hours (4 to 7 p.m.). The pilot would run six Fridays in June–August, timed to precede the summer concerts. Staff estimated per-event costs of about $2,200 (crossing guards, public-works support and logistics) and revenues near $3,300 from vendor fees and rentals; the village would contract with the Chamber’s events coordinator to help manage applications and on-site logistics.
Public-safety staff recommended hiring paid crossing guards through an outside vendor rather than relying on school crossing-guard volunteers, and trustees discussed public-works setup and traffic impacts. The board endorsed the pilot approach, asked staff to finalize consultant arrangements and recommended evaluating results in September for adjustments or a permanent program.
What’s next: Staff will work with the Chamber and outside consultants to finalize logistics, vendor recruitment and a safety plan for the pilot events; trustees asked that backup consultants be identified in case of scheduling conflicts.
